The Trillionaires Tablet Wars

IHS iSuppli have just published their quarter 2 *global tablet shipment estimates and reckon “ the ongoing rivalry is shaping up to be a battle of the Titans”.

We too look forward to the various battles along the way between the exclusive members of the “Trillionaires Club”. The membership has since our last definition expanded a little and current rules require a rounded company market capitalisation minimum of US$0.1 trillion as well as significant volume actual or planned tablet sales.

Interesting to note that of the US members Google leads on the largest market cap increase of 18% since the end of June followed by Apple at 11%.

….. but also to produce our first averages by Brand/Vendor which we hope to be able to feature on a continuing basis.

The market could really disrupt in the next 2-3 quarters with likely at least 2 new product announcements and up to 4 new product sales/shipments.

UPDATE – Major disruption could take place if any of the numerous rumours of a $199 price for the Microsoft Surface RT are anywhere near the mark!

We look forward to it

* We noticed what are likely a couple of typos (dates) in the IHS iSuppli table and have amended these. If we have got this wrong we offer an unqualified apology to both you and them!  We also “boxed” Q2 figures.
