IDC  have just released their estimates for Q2 and they differ significantly from yesterday’s Canalys figures.

Unsurprisingly Apple are the same in accordance with their recently released results.

Both agree that Samsung came in second but Canalys had Asus at number 3 and amazon with <500,000 units, wheras IDC have amazon with over 1 million units in third place ahead of Asus.

.Last quarter we averaged the identified reporting “intelligence” firms with the following result:

.So the increase quarter 2 over quarter 1 was exactly 25%  before we added Strategy Analytics. It’s now 25.5%!

* We note that in its current press release IDC have revised their first quarter shipments to 18.7 million but cannot trace any publicly available ”final” updates and hence have not amended their May 3 release. If we had the Q1 average would have become 19.9 million and the increase in Q2 – 23.1%

We will attempt to track the other estimates and update the figures accordingly including, dependent on disclosure, company averages.

Update 4.30pm BST
