How big is your Apple?

Well the heaviest one  (according to the Guinness Book of records) weighed in at 4lbs 1 oz (1.849kg) but the biggest one has a current market capitalisation of circa $545 billion, employs over 63,000 people of whom 42,200 work on their retail side and it also had nearly $110 billion in cash (including equivalents and marketable securities) at 31 March 2012.

Lots more interesting facts on this rather impressive infographic.

Canalys  have recently released their worldwide total client PC shipments figures for Quarter 1. As previously mentioned they include tablets (which they, rather unglamorously we think, call pads) in their PC figures.

Extracting the figures from their press releases and deriving certain information from their percentages etc gives we calculate the following figures:

They highlight that HP are back in pole position being 40,000 units ahead of Apple.

This is probably the first Q1 Tablet estimate and at 20.3 million is just shy of our guess, which on an annual basis aggressively,   looks towards 150 million.  Looking just at the Tablet v’s PC market the margin has actually widened from 56% to 62% in this quarter but we are still confident that the crossover will occur well before 2020.

In other news on the smartphone shipment estimates front IDC have just released their Quarter 1 info and are pretty close to Strategy Analytics view  so it looks as if Samsung have probably won this round on points in a very long fight!
