Daniel Danker * (General Manager, Programmes & On-Demand BBC / Head of iPlayer) gave an almost devastating talk last Friday at the DTG Summit 2012 (Digital Television Group) entitled Me and My TV – How Can We Connect?
Basically he was saying that “connected” TV’s and devices are too complex, whereas iPad’s are almost as intuitive as the red button on your remote (if you’re in the UK).
Although its 17 minutes long we watched all of it – it’s well worth the time.
Apple future products projects will love it. A reminder of what Steve Jobs was reported as saying. “‘I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.’”
For our part we don’t understand why the iPlayer isn’t monetised!
